Week 3

Matlab Simulink

  • Very little documention

  • If we can figure it out, it will be a great resource for comparing cells and module configurations

  • Will help us get a good idea of how much of an issue heat will be

PCM - Phase Change Material

  • Researched different options​

    • Organic vs Inorganic​

  • Lots of pros and cons, including:

    • Pro - Could switch out during charging​

    • Pro - Many options available at low costs

    • Con - Some have a very high volume change​

    • Con - Many options would be difficult to package​

      • Some are highly corrosive​

      • Some are very flammable

Week 2

General Notes

  • Continuing research into various cooling methods

  • Stark Varg uses convection cooling through casing with heat fins

Cell Research

  • Compared IR of different cells

  • Basic heat calculations of cells

Decisions

  • Ruled out liquid cooled packs

  • Currently pursuing passive cooling

  • What types of cells are most suited for our project?

  • What cooling methods exist?​

  • How difficult will it be to have hot-swappable packs with each cooling method?​​​

  • Could we run the bike without cooling?​

    • Assuming pack swaps every 30-45mins​

    • Could cool packs while charging​​
